Unmanning the front lines
Every mission, even humanitarian missions, contain an element of risk. To put fewer sailors in harm's way, the Navy Robotics Lab stays on the cutting edge of robotic and drone technology.
Robots are vehicles that are capable of carrying out simple directions and tasks without an actual human controlling their actions. Drones require remote pilots, who operate them from a distance. Although mainly used for reconnaissance and hazardous conditions such as anti-mine and EOD duties, unmanned vehicles are beginning to see more roles in combat and search & rescue.
